Obstetrics & Gynecology
Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) is a medical specialty that focuses on the care of women's reproductive systems and associated disorders. It encompasses two distinct but closely related fields:
Obstetrics: This branch deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Obstetricians are responsible for monitoring the health of the mother and the baby during pregnancy, managing labor and delivery, and addressing any complications that may arise.
Gynecology: This branch focuses on the health of the female reproductive system, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and breasts. Gynecologists diagnose and treat conditions related to menstruation, fertility, sexually transmitted infections, and menopause, among other issues.
OB-GYNs are trained to provide both obstetric and gynecologic care, making them key healthcare providers for women throughout their lives, from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
